The Meridian Community Unit School District 223 Board of Education convened a special meeting on Oct. 29, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. President John Smith called the meeting to order and reported members present as Collins, DeVries, Huber, Rhodes, Smith, Youman and Welden. The board recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Board member Huber moved to approve the meeting agenda and Board member Collins seconded; the minutes record the vote as "Ayes: All," and the motion carried unanimously. During the formal community input period the minutes state that there were no public comments: "None."
Shortly after convening, Board member Welden moved and Board member Rhodes seconded a motion to adjourn into Closed Session; the motion carried unanimously and the minutes record the closed-session start time as 5:01 p.m. The board later moved to reconvene in Open Session on a motion by Collins, seconded by Huber; that motion also passed unanimously and the minutes record the reconvened time as 10:00 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned by the chairman at 10:00 p.m. The minutes are signed as "Respectfully Submitted by Elaine Nicholson, Recording Secretary" and "Verified by John Smith, Board President."
