UW–Platteville preview: Welcome Week moves to four days with 1,200 new students expected

“We have about 1,200 new, freshmen to expect, that are either moving in or commuting,” Abigail said, adding the program this year is four days rather than three. She described a kickoff class photo and a large ice‑breaker “play fair” on the East practice field with outdoor amplification and an expected 700–800 attendees, plus Bridge Fest — featuring some 60–70 student organizations — and evening events including Pinklow, a paint‑spray DJ event that organizers plan to end by about 10–10:30 p.m.
The organizer said many Welcome Week activities are indoors on Monday and Tuesday and that the schedule mirrors past years with modest additions. Council members asked one question about the movie selection; Abigail said students voted to screen Stepbrothers. The presentation was informational; no council action was required.
