Board approves $15,000 amendment for consultant preparing seismic mitigation application

The Sunol Glen Unified board approved Amendment No. 1 to the district's independent contractor agreement with Sierra West Consulting Group (also referred to as CRS/Sierra West) to prepare the cost-estimate documents required by the Office of Public School Construction for the seismic mitigation application. The amendment carries a fiscal impact of $15,000, which trustees approved after questions about timing and contract scope.
Bill Savage, the district's bond implementation consultant, described the role the consultant will play in preparing the "minimum work required" cost set the Office of Public School Construction requires for seismic-mitigation funding. "Receiving our seismic mitigation program funds from the office of public school construction is a key element of having a successful full project for the main building reconstruction, solid renovations, and seismic upgrade," Savage said during the presentation.
Trustees asked staff about caps in the agreement and whether the consultant would return to the board for additional authorization if costs exceeded contract limits; staff indicated there is a contract limit and they would return for further approval if needed. The motion to approve the amendment passed.
