SWIPCO outlines Missouri Valley Comprehensive Plan with 260 survey responses

Dani Briggs of the Southwest Iowa Planning Council told the City Council that work on the Missouri Valley Comprehensive Plan began in fall 2024 and was informed by a community survey that received 260 responses.
"This produced a mission statement and four clear goals: strengthening housing opportunities and neighborhood vitality, fostering a thriving local economy and vibrant downtown, enhancing parks, recreation, and community livability, and strengthening infrastructure mobility and community resources," Briggs said. She added that four in-person public input sessions were held and that the city ordinance had been updated to comply with the plan.
The public hearing drew no written comments, and Mayor Marshall closed the hearing after there were no further questions. The plan summary provided by SWIPCO will inform zoning and future ordinance work; the council did not take further action at the July 7 meeting but will consider related ordinance changes as the codification and implementation work proceeds.
