Ouachita Parish canvasses two elections: parishwide renewal passes, road-lighting district proposition defeated

The Ouachita Parish Police Jury canvassed returns from two recent elections during its July 20 meeting.
Resolution No. 26-28 addressed the Consolidated Road Lighting District No. 52 election held May 16, 2026. Official tabulations showed 136 votes in favor and 255 against; the Jury declared that the proposition was "duly defeated." The canvass included a statement that the estimated first-year revenue would have been approximately $54,101.25 had the measure passed.
Resolution No. 26-29 canvassed the June 27, 2026 parishwide renewal: a proposed renewal of 9.2 mills to support jail obligations and sheriff-related expenses. Official totals were 9,095 yes and 7,861 no; the Jury declared the proposition duly passed and ordered promulgation of the results.
Both canvasses were adopted by recorded votes of the Jury (YEAS: Bacon, Tyson, Bratton, Smiley; two members absent). The canvass documents will be filed with the Secretary of State and recorded in parish records as required by law.
