Two local education foundations updated the board about fundraising and planned support for district programs at the Aug. 14 meeting.
Karen L. Harden, interim executive director of the Malibu Education Foundation, said MEF raised about $200,000 in its first year, delivered $327,000 to the district and plans a fundraising gala on Oct. 4; the foundation noted it had been "$150,000 short" of initial commitments due to a difficult year of fires and related disruption.
Raymer Flynn, executive director of the Santa Monica Education Foundation, told the board the foundation had 1,679 donors and committed $2,521,564 for next-year funding; the foundation fully funds $1,800,000 in programming and highlighted revenue channels including a wine auction and corporate and matching gifts. Both presenters thanked the board and district for partnership and said funds support instructional assistance, arts, social-emotional learning, STEM and wellness programs.
The board acknowledged the funding and thanked the foundations for their ongoing contributions to district programs.
