Board adopts resolution to retitle Roosevelt Elementary deed so Edison can quitclaim unused easement

The board adopted Resolution 2504 to correct the district name on a grant deed for Roosevelt Elementary so Southern California Edison can quick-claim an easement no longer needed for power infrastructure, clearing the way for planned construction at the site.
Staff explained that Southern California Edison holds an easement or license on a parcel at Roosevelt Elementary that is no longer needed for providing power and that Edison is willing to quick-claim the interest. Because the easement was granted before the district adopted the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified name, staff said the deed requires a name correction for the acquisition to proceed. "So, we now need to do this name change on the deed in order to get Edison to quick claim their license," staff said.
The board moved and seconded adoption of Resolution 25-04 to convey and accept the corrected grant deed and delegatory authority; the motion passed on roll call. Staff said the attorney will review other properties for similar issues and coordinate the title work needed to support upcoming construction at the Roosevelt campus.
