Superintendent Ramont Roberts introduced a district proposal to replace aging T12 lighting with LEDs across buildings not previously addressed by the bond program. Director of Facilities Tim Furtaw told the committee that many older fixtures are becoming difficult and expensive to maintain and that replacement parts for T12 systems will soon be unavailable.
Furtaw said Consumers Energy is offering rebates for conversions but those incentives are "anticipated to end this year," making it important for the district to act now. He identified Ameresco as a potential partner and said the company would use a "design-build approach," handling design, engineering and project management and allowing the district to purchase equipment directly to reduce costs. Roberts said funding for the initial phase would come from the General Fund and that the item will be placed on the consent agenda for the upcoming action meeting.
The committee did not take a vote on the proposal during the Buildings & Grounds/Finance Committee meeting; board members asked that the plan and funding details appear on the consent agenda so the full board can act at the scheduled action meeting.
