During the stormwater presentation, Maroney described the G2G11 Canal project — a two‑phase effort stretching from the YMCA/Marion Street up to 10th Street — that includes flood‑control features and a planned pump station near Canal and Highland. "A lot of the focus is on the North End," he said, and staff are planning floodgates (one near 10th Street) and a pump station aimed at lowering pre‑storm water levels to increase available capacity during storm events.
Maroney told the council the first phase is nearly complete and that the second phase is under design; staff expect to advertise the first phase for bid in April. He cautioned that tidal connections and river proximity make permitting more complex on some reaches and that coordination with county and state permitting authorities will be required.
