The council authorized the city manager to contract with Kurtco Incorporated for asphalt crack sealing citywide in an amount not to exceed $100,000. Staff said crack sealing is the first line of defense against water intrusion into roadway bases and helps preserve pavement life.
CIP Manager Patrick Hubbard (speaker 27) said the work is procured through an interlocal agreement and that Kurtco has performed the work satisfactorily in prior years. "If you don't seal the cracks, the water gets into the cracks, it digs them out, gets underneath, eats the road up," Hubbard explained. Council moved and approved the authorization by voice vote.
The contract will be funded from the road improvement account and is part of the city's five-year pavement management planning. Staff will schedule the work and return contractor terms to the manager for signature.
