City accepts TPWD grant and awards contract for Forest Creek Park playgrounds

CIP Manager Patrick Hubbard (speaker 27) told the council the city was awarded $236,003.26. Staff recommended purchasing two appropriately sized playgrounds (a larger 6'12 unit, a smaller 2'5 unit) and refurbishing or replacing a swing set; Playground Boss was the recommended installer with a quoted installation cost of $154,039. Hubbard said the city's match would be roughly half of the installed amount (about $74,000). "We think these playgrounds are a better fit for the park," Hubbard said, noting the smaller toddler play area would sit on the same pad and keep toddlers separate from older children (Patrick Hubbard, speaker 27).
Council moved and approved authorizing the manager to enter the grant agreement and the Playground Boss contract; members also discussed the option of requesting a modification from the state to apply any remaining grant funds to additional park improvements later. The motion carried on voice vote.
What happens next: staff will execute the grant, finalize the Playground Boss contract, and proceed with procurement and scheduling. If the city seeks to use leftover grant dollars for additional park amenities, staff will request state approval for a project modification.
