Sheriff secures equipment payments and approves canine handlers' national training

Sheriff's Office also requested permission to send two canine handlers to a nationally sponsored canine training in Nashville, Tennessee; the estimated cost per person including lodging and airfare is $3,264 with a registration fee of $700 and an expected partial reimbursement of $350 from a training grant. "It's an exceptional conference... there's some... K-9 teams internationally," the sheriff said while outlining the training. Commissioners approved the out-of-state travel request and asked that the handlers report back following the training.
The sheriff also reported an operational jail count and noted his department provided drone support during the recent Damascotta response.
