Santa Maria High awarded $2.375 million community-schools grant; district outlines services

Jose Pereira, director of wellness services, told trustees the district received a community schools implementation grant for Santa Maria High School totaling $2,375,000 over five years and said the funding is intended to jump-start school transformation work under the state's community schools framework. "We were awarded $2,375,000 over 5 years," Pereira said, and noted the grant requires a sustainability plan after year five.
Site lead Nancy Pacheco described rollout initiatives this year: supportive nutrition services in partnership with the Salvation Army, a coordination team ("cost team") to streamline referrals and immediate supports, family engagement in preferred languages, and expanded summer enrichment through the CTE center. She said the steering committee currently includes two teachers formally, plus administrators, classified staff, students and parents participating in advisory meetings.
