Board approves licensure packet, requires extra experience for one applicant

The Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors on March 12 approved a packet of 21 initial licensure applications and granted a waiver to allow Sandeep Arya to pursue mining engineering licensure under NRS 625.193(a).
During review of the non-appearance applications, Board member Karen Purcell raised concerns about Haley Grable, a civil engineering applicant whose undergraduate degree is a BA in Cognitive Science. "The engineering quotient of Ms. Grable’s education was not attained until the completion of her engineering masters," Purcell said, and the Board determined the undergraduate coursework did not meet the statutory engineering-degree threshold. Legal counsel Chris MacKenzie confirmed the degree requirement did not appear satisfied and clarified the Board could require additional engineering experience.
After discussion the Board approved the applications in the packet with one exception: Ms. Grable must accrue an additional 1 year, 11 months of engineering experience before being eligible for licensure. The motion to approve the packet with that condition was seconded and recorded as passing unanimously. The Board recorded a total of 21 applications reviewed in the packet.
The actions reflect the Board’s continued case-by-case approach to special-consideration requests, and staff were directed to implement the Board’s condition for Ms. Grable.
