UDOT engineer outlines uses for connected-vehicle (V2X) technology

Blaine Leonard, UDOT Transportation Technology Engineer, briefed the TAC on Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology and how it is being used in Utah.
"Current applications primarily include transit signal priority, snowplow priority/ pre-emption, and emergency vehicle pre-emption," Leonard said, and invited jurisdictions to reach out if they are interested in exploring V2X deployments in their communities.
Leonard framed V2X as a tool for improving signal coordination and operational priorities for specialized fleets; he encouraged local staff to consider use cases, right-of-way implications and coordination with UDOT and transit agencies before pursuing installations.
