Council approved several event requests during the Jan. 13 meeting. Indian River Elementary asked the council to waive a $100 special-activity application fee for a school 5K; Theresa Cameron for the school clarified the event date was changed to March 29 and thanked council for support. Council voted to waive the fee and confirmed event logistics.
The Burns Science & Technology Charter School requested use of the Whistle Stop Park volleyball court for practices; staff said insurance would be verified and council approved the reservation. James Lynch, owner of Godfather Custom Cycles, described plans for a block party with vendors and a car/bike show and said sponsorships will offset city costs. "We're looking more like April 12 would be the date that I'm looking at as far as my calendar is concerned," Lynch said; council approved a tentative closure of East Park Avenue with the applicant covering officer detail and garbage costs as needed.
