Edgewater accepts Silver Palm Canal easement from Volusia County for maintenance

Council voted to accept deed/easements from Volusia County allowing the city to own and maintain the Silver Palm Canal and receive a 50-foot easement on an East-West canal for cleaning and maintenance, city staff said at the Jan. 13 meeting.
Interim Environmental Services Director Sean Maroney told council that Volusia County is transferring ownership of the Silver Palm Canal and granting the city a 50-foot maintenance easement on an East-West canal that will allow city crews to clean and maintain that drainage path. "They're gonna give us an easement over that as well, a 50 foot easement so that we can go in and clean that out," Maroney said while explaining the arrangement.
Maroney said the county is in the process of acquiring roughly 2,500 acres on the west side of Florida Shores and is preparing to transfer property to the state; because the city already maintained Silver Palm Canal, the county excluded it from the state transfer and will deed it to Edgewater so the city can officially assume maintenance responsibility. Council approved the consent-item motion and thanked county and city staff for their coordination.
