Belvedere-Tiburon Library outlines programs, enrollment push and resilience plan

Crystal Duran, director of the Belvedere-Tiburon Library, presented the library's annual overview and strategic priorities. She reported a FY25–26 budget of $3,750,000, staffing of 18.2 full-time equivalent positions, robust reserves, and high program participation and room bookings. The library has expanded its "library of things" collection, includes laptops and hotspots and has recorded over 124,000 visits year-to-date.
Duran said the library is partnering with the Reed Union School District to enroll students with public library cards as part of state-mandated efforts, using an opt-out model. On community resilience she told council the library has engaged the Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) to study costs and configuration for solar plus battery backup so the building could provide services when the grid is down. "What would a potential backup battery system look like so that we can operate for 3 days or 72 hours uninterrupted to provide that resilience for community members," she said. Staff will return with further details and possible funding pathways.
