Albany Area Schools board reviews strategic-plan feedback, asks administration to draft implementation proposal

The Albany Area Schools Board met in a work session on Jan. 21, 2025, at the district office board room. Chair Scott Hansen called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m.; board members Sands, Rueter, Dirkes, Henkelman and Ronning were recorded present, with Sand absent. The session focused on strategic planning facilitation and ended at 7:48 p.m.

Bruce Miles of the Big River Group led the facilitated review of survey feedback and the results of both in-person and virtual planning sessions, highlighting themes that recurred across responses. Board members, administration and student board representatives worked in small groups to brainstorm visions and priorities; the full group then used a dot-mocracy voting method to select the board's top priorities.

After selecting high-level goals, the board reviewed desired outcomes for each priority and directed the administrative team to develop a proposal that details specific implementation strategies. The board requested that the administration return that proposal for consideration later this spring. No formal motions or votes were recorded during the work session; the action was a directive for staff follow-up.

The session produced a set of high-level goals and an action step: staff will prepare a detailed implementation proposal outlining how the district would meet the identified outcomes and return it to the board for further consideration.
