Council adopts comp-plan change to allow mixed-use future at 900 West Drexel

The Oak Creek Common Council voted July 21 to amend the city's 2020 comprehensive-plan land-use category for the parcel at 900 West Drexel Avenue from industrial to mixed use. Christie Lane, the city's community development director, told the council the change is intended as a forward-looking step to allow future mixed commercial and residential development consistent with Drexel Town Square and conceptual plans prepared for the site.
"The comprehensive plan defines mixed use as distinct uses stacked vertically within the same structure," Lane said during her presentation, adding the application comes with a conceptual site plan that shows commercial space fronting Drexel and residential behind. The plan commission reviewed the application and recommended approval at its May 12 meeting. After the statutorily required public-hearing period concluded with no public speakers, the council moved to adopt ordinance No. 3162. The ordinance passed by roll call vote.
