Mayor Gary Thielen told the council that Brosz Engineering submitted a complete estimate for a new well system totaling roughly $1.4 million; he said he will ask the engineering firm to remove unnecessary items (a building and land purchase) to reduce the scope before applying for grant funding. Clerk/Treasurer Ashley Martin reported an MSU Extension email listing grant categories that include water infrastructure and other community projects, with award sizes roughly $150,000 to $350,000 and application deadlines in mid‑December; she said cost‑share details were not yet provided.
The council also heard that Ryland with Brosz told staff the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is requiring an operations-and-maintenance manual for the permit, which has delayed readiness to go to bid. Water/Wastewater Operator Sam Thielen reported he passed water training and noted the town needs replacement chlorine tanks (10‑year lifespan) and has an initial shipment of 25 new meters incoming. Mayor Thielen said he will continue talks with the engineer to refine the estimate before submitting grant applications.
