Plevna outlines beautification steps and explores grain elevator teardown

Councilwoman Promise Miller briefed the council on a Sept. 30 beautification meeting where residents favored replacing the 'Entering Plevna' signs, installing new sidewalks and improving park benches and gutters. Miller estimated the gutters and benches would total roughly $3,000 and said that line-item funding exists in the budget for the work.
Mayor Gary Thielen said he has begun outreach to pursue teardown of the town’s old grain elevators, noting the mayor of Richey provided contacts at Burlington Northern. Thielen said the process requires substantial correspondence and recommended involving county disaster-coordinator, the sanitarian and the fire chief to address liability issues; he also said the town may need to assume property maintenance if the elevators are removed.
