Chair Kim Nelson moved the action, saying it followed conversations with legal counsel and with Wagner and was intended to "support the district and Superintendent Wagner's ability to move forward." Director Dave Klatt seconded the motion. A roll-call vote recorded Bruce Olson, Davy Villarreal, Dave Klatt, Neal Skaar, Angie Hoffman, Kim Nelson and Gary Schindler in favor; the motion carried 7-0.
Nelson said Superintendent Wagner would make himself available during the transition "as needed," and the board did not record additional direction about interim staffing in the meeting minutes. The board took the vote after a recess for a tour of the district's 18–21 program and routine reports.
The board's action was made on a formal motion titled "Terms of Employment for Superintendent Wagner." The district minutes note the motion allows the superintendent's contract to expire and places him on administrative leave effective Dec. 17 through June 30.
