Board approves $85,000 transfer for historic overlay design guidelines for Thoroughfare

The Prince William County Board on Nov. 18 approved a request from the Planning Office to transfer $85,000 from contingency to fund consultant services to draft design guidelines for a proposed Thoroughfare historic overlay district.
Planning Director Tanya Washington said the county has already advanced a National Register nomination for the Thoroughfare community and needs professional guidelines to accompany a zoning text amendment (ZTA) that would create the overlay. "We are here to request, that the board transfer $85,000 from contingency to the planning office for consultant services," Washington said, explaining the money would allow the county to produce the design guidelines in the same timeframe as the zoning amendment so both can be presented to the board together.
Board members asked whether the interpretive park work was distinct from the overlay guidelines; planning staff clarified the park project is handled by Parks & Recreation while the Planning Office is producing the zoning/overlay package. The motion to transfer $85,000 passed unanimously.
