The Albert Lea Area Schools special school board voted Jan. 3 to extend an offer for interim superintendent to David Krenz, contingent on a mutually agreeable employment contract and completion of a criminal background check with results acceptable to the board. The motion to extend the offer was made by board member Gary Schindler and seconded by Dave Klatt; the board approved the motion by roll call, 7-0, with votes in favor from Bruce Olson, Davy Villarreal, Dave Klatt, Kim Nelson, Gary Schindler, Angie Hoffman and Neal Skaar.
The action took place during a brief special meeting at Brookside Education Center that began at 10:00 a.m. and adjourned at 10:14 a.m. The meeting record lists an administrator as "none" and shows 15 community or staff attendees. The board's approval is contingent: the district will negotiate an employment contract with Krenz and complete a criminal background check; the hire is dependent on successful negotiation and an acceptable background-check result.
