Chair Olsen opened the meeting by asking Ms. Brewer to introduce the county executive’s nominees to the Solid Waste Advisory Commission. Brewer described five reappointment candidates and their experience in environmental advocacy, engineering, sustainability and community development.
Nancy Meyer, who said, “I am pleased to be presented to you today for consideration for reappointment to the Solid Waste Advisory Commission,” described more than 35 years of nonprofit and reuse-focused work in Hyattsville and urged the committee to prioritize climate-related impacts on vulnerable residents. Several other nominees summarized their professional qualifications and prior service to the county.
After introductions, the committee moved and seconded a favorable recommendation on all nominations and approved the reappointments by roll call (motion carries 3-0). The committee noted appreciation for the commission’s work and said staff will continue to coordinate with the commission on county solid-waste messaging and implementation of the county’s 10-year solid-waste management plan.
