Monica Wasdin, president of the Highlands Ranch Community Association board, presented the inaugural 2026 Nico March Hero of Community Management Award to Mike Bailey, HRCA's CEO and general manager. Wasdin described Bailey's leadership and collaborative work on conservation, education, and intergenerational programming in Highlands Ranch.
"Please join me in congratulating the inaugural recipient of the Nico March Hero of Community Management Award, Mike Bailey," Wasdin said. Bailey accepted the recognition and emphasized the team effort behind HRCA's programs, thanking staff and partners including Douglas County.
Commissioners commended Bailey for long-standing collaboration with the county, noting HRCA's contributions to preserving open space and operating large recreation facilities. One commissioner said a national award "doesn't come across often" and praised Bailey's work advancing county partnerships and services. The board opened for public comment and, seeing none, moved on without formal action.
