The Lucas City Council voted Nov. 7 to approve resolution R2024-11-00562 authorizing submission of a Texas Community Development Block Grant application and committing a $75,000 local match to the project.
City Manager John Whitsall (S3) said the resolution supports a grant application to replace aging water lines and described it as a way to leverage state grant funds for repairs the city otherwise would not prioritize. Whitsall also observed that city crews were repairing a related water leak the same day. Council discussed that the local share represents approximately 10% of the grant and confirmed there were no immediate "gotchas" in accepting the grant; the council moved and approved the resolution unanimously.
The council approved the resolution on the understanding staff will follow program guidelines and return with required documentation if the grant is awarded.
