Resident Patrick Tuohy presented a petition asking the Town Council to request the Rhode Island Department of Transportation change a passing zone on Route 7 to a no-passing zone between Rankin Path and Mataday Road, citing safety problems from speeding, trucks, and confusing markings. "I'm requesting that that zone be changed to no passing," Tuohy said.
Councilors and residents described motorists passing near driveways and steep hills as hazardous and said the town successfully petitioned DOT for no-passing designations in the past. A motion to petition DOT for a study and consideration of making the section a no-passing zone passed by roll call with recorded yes votes.
