The Public Services & Facilities Committee voted Wednesday to approve purchase of an automated side-loader garbage truck, a purchase budgeted at $435,000 from the hospitality fund. Staff said the truck is already on the dealer lot and that adoption will reduce two positions on a full-time route while improving worker safety.
"The truck is here physically," the staffer said, noting the vehicle was procured through the South Carolina procurement list and is ready for delivery. The motion to approve was moved and seconded on the committee floor and passed by voice vote; staff will return with warranty specifics and an estimate of temporary labor-savings tied to removing two personnel from the rear-loader route.
