Policy Committee recommends adoption of PRESS Issue #116 after Title IX rule changes

The Rankin School District #98 Policy Committee on Sept. 16, 2024 reviewed PRESS Issue #116 (August 2024) and decided to recommend the full package of policies to the Board of Education. The committee noted that a large portion of the revisions respond to the U.S. Department of Education's final regulations implementing Title IX of the Education Amendments; the committee also determined that the exhibits and administrative procedures from the Press Issue will be added to the District's Administrative Procedures (AP) Manual.

The decision to recommend the policies was reached during committee discussion; the minutes state, in part, that "a significant amount of updates related to the U.S. Dept. of Education releasing final regulations implementing Title IX." The committee did not record an individual roll-call vote on the recommendation in the minutes; the entry records the committee's determination as its formal recommendation for consideration by the full Board of Education. The Policy Committee meeting was called to order by Dr. Matt Gordon at 5:20 p.m., with members Peter Bacon and Leann Kohl present and Shannon Atkins absent.

The update package identified in PRESS Issue #116 is intended to align District policies and corresponding exhibits and administrative procedures with federal Title IX regulatory changes. The committee's action was limited to recommending the package to the Board; no final Board action on adoption was reported in these minutes. The next regularly scheduled Policy Committee meeting was noted as Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, at 6:30 p.m.
