Deputy County Attorney Lisa Cho reviewed options for student representation on the Board and cited Education Code 1000 as allowing the Board to select more than one student trustee. "Education Code 1000 allows the Board to select more than one student trustee," Cho said, and she described petition procedures, possibilities for hybrid models, and outreach approaches to ensure student involvement from Court and Community Schools or other county high schools.
Board members discussed practical concerns such as term length, continuity if a student changes schools during a term, and the possibility of maintaining a queue of students to preserve consistent representation. Cho said the Board may set petition procedures and could permit remote attendance via Zoom for students in custody to enhance inclusion.
