Superintendent Nancy Magee opened her remarks by welcoming new board member Edith Arias and noting recent federal policy changes she said could affect FAFSA processing and student loan funding. Magee said federal reductions have constrained some DEI-related work but emphasized the importance of equitable learning environments.
Magee also announced that the County Office’s PBIS team, led by Greg Fry, was selected as the regional lead for Region 4 after a strong interview response. She shared positive feedback from a Western Association of Schools and Colleges midterm review of the Court and Community Schools program, noting that SMCOE staff will share their board reports as a model with other counties. Magee invited the public to a Saturday, April 5, 10:30–11:30 a.m. gathering at the County Center featuring local leaders including Congressman Kevin Mullen, Senator Josh Becker, and Assemblymember Diane Papan to stand up for public education.
