San Mateo County Board receives mid‑year LCAP update on attendance, assessments and PBIS measures

Notch said adopted curricula pilots in social science and science will include new, curriculum‑embedded assessments intended to provide more real‑time data to adjust instruction.
Board Member Patricia Love praised the clear metrics and noted work with students in programs and foster care. Love asked about GPA progress; Notch replied many students enter programs with GPA and credit deficits and staff use ILPs and support meetings to mitigate barriers. Board Member Mike O'Neill asked why "absent without leave" (AWOL) was excluded from improved attendance metrics; Notch said AWOL at Canyon Oaks would skew global rates because of the small population and individual instances are handled case by case. Board members also requested a glossary of acronyms and clarity on how PBIS outcomes (suspension rates, pro‑social skill measures, sense of belonging) will be tracked.
