Novi reports three EV vans arriving, new digital threat-assessment model, literacy rollout and cooking contest plans

District administrators used the Oct. 17 meeting to report a range of operational and academic updates.
Rebecca Scicluna, assistant superintendent of business and operations, said three EV vans purchased by the district have been delivered to Hook Equipment Garage and will be outfitted as 10-passenger vehicles; she estimated a minimum four-week lead time before delivery to the district. Scicluna described her team's approach as customer-service oriented, saying, "they are here to serve," and noted ongoing coordination with maintenance on purchase schedules.
Dr. Laura Carino, assistant superintendent of talent management and development, said the district moved its School Threat Assessment and Columbia Suicide Risk Assessment to a digital model "this year" to streamline staff access and resource sharing. She announced student surveys via Panorama will begin Oct. 21 and described a multi-year "stay interview" process for staff retention. Mr. Giromini, assistant superintendent of teaching and learning, said juniors will take the PSAT at the end of October (used for National Merit recognition) and that the Strategic Plan Dashboard is being developed with Excellence Data Analytics.
Scicluna also said the Food Service Team, led by Kimberly Sinclair, plans a high-school cooking competition focused on culturally significant dishes targeted for March 2025 with prizes for top teams.
