Sheriff: Crow Wing County approved for VSET funding; records specialist position to be funded

The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office told the board on Nov. 12 that the county's VSET (Violent Crime Enforcement Team) application was approved and that state funding will support a records specialist position for the team.
The sheriff's office said the VSET approval will fund a position responsible for financial records, statistics and evidence control related to VSET operations and audits, including quarterly reporting to the state and interactions with federal partners. "We'll be funded now through the VSET program, which is the trigger that allows us to try to hire that individual that we needed for our record support," a sheriff's representative said. County administrators noted the position had been included in the county's preliminary 2026 budget on the expectation VSET dollars would fund it.
