Board authorizes RFP for medical-examiner transport services; proposals due Dec. 12

The board authorized the sheriff's office on Nov. 12 to solicit a request for proposals (RFP) for medical-examiner transport services after the county's long-time contractor retired and sold his business.
Sheriff's office representatives said the contract was last put out roughly 10 years ago and that the business was sold to an individual who had been working with the contractor. County staff said the new owner is encouraged to submit a proposal but must compete with others; because the item is a service, the county will evaluate proposals by insurance, qualifications and overall value rather than simply taking the lowest bid. The county set a submission deadline of 4 p.m. on Dec. 12. Commissioner Francine moved to authorize the sheriff's office to solicit RFPs and the motion passed by roll call.
County staff and commissioners noted this is a request for proposals (not a bid) so the county may select a proposal that best meets service and insurance requirements. The sheriff's office said it will accept written proposals at the sheriff's office by the published deadline.
