Airport manager outlines $29M runway project, parking upgrades and strong summer traffic

Airport Manager Andrew Solzweig gave a multi-part update covering Redding and Benton airports, capital projects, air service and budgetary needs. "It includes resurfacing the existing runway, blast pads, runway lights, airfield signage, and improvements to safety area," Solzweig said.
He reported parking-lot resurfacing will increase to about $1,400,000 to achieve the necessary asphalt depth and to stub electrical capacity for future EV charging. Solzweig also reviewed tenant projects: Reading Jet Center fuel-tank work (~$3.8M) and a planned $15,000,000 Air Shasta hangar under a forthcoming lease. On air service, he said the new Denver route began with a 93% load factor in its first month — a strong sign for continued service expansion — and that passenger counts have exceeded pre-COVID levels. Council members thanked staff and asked about funding mechanisms, FAA timing and the need to prioritize projects by federal eligibility and local match requirements.
