Poulsbo students pitch moving farmers market to downtown to boost traffic

Two North Kitsap High School seniors presented a plan to the Poulsbo City Council urging the relocation of the Gateway Church farmers market to a downtown site to increase foot traffic and vendor opportunities.
"We were, hypothesizing that we could move the farmer's market down to downtown," said Zach Richards, one of the students, describing limited facilities at the current site and the presence of only a porta‑potty. His classmate Connor Perrette said outreach during Viking Fest found multiple businesses willing to consider the idea.
Council members thanked the students for their initiative and urged them to meet with existing market leadership. Mayor and councilors recommended the students contact Jean Saint Germain, identified as the market director, for a one‑on‑one discussion. The mayor and council emphasized that any relocation would require coordination with the current market operator and downtown businesses.
The students described the proposal as a class "legacy project" and said their outreach will continue; council members encouraged formal outreach and additional polling before any formal city action.
