Supervisors approve builders' risk insurance for county jail; one supervisor objects

Representatives from HP Insurance and ICAP briefed the Board on liability and builders’ risk insurance renewals for the county jail. The primary premium for builders’ risk insurance was presented as $8,874 covering July 15 to Oct. 31; if the jail is occupied earlier, the county would receive a premium refund.
Supervisor Mike Schulte moved to purchase the builders’ risk insurance and the motion carried on a roll call with Supervisors Schulte, Vande Hoef, Loring and DeBoer voting in favor and Supervisor Jerry Helmers voting nay. The Board then voted to keep coverage as presented. No public testimony was recorded on the insurance decision. Policy documents and the premium are on file with the county’s risk-management records.
