Executive director: national organizations coordinate on funding cuts; SILC to host Sept. 3 transportation meeting

Executive Director Shelly Richardson told council members that, on the national front, "NASILC, National Council on Independent Living (NCIL), and APRIL have joined forces to present a consistent message and united voice in response to funding cuts." She said she continues SILC peer-support calls and reported participation in an Access & Functional Needs meeting in Normal and a July 29 transportation meeting in Chicago with Karen Tamley (Access Living), Laura Saltzman (Illinois Department of Transportation) and newly appointed IDOT Secretary Gia Biagi.
Richardson announced a transportation meeting scheduled for Sept. 3, 2025 to be held in the SILC office and described plans to host meetings across Illinois with Centers for Independent Living to address transportation issues. She also said she has been invited to join the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) in a role that includes a $3,600 stipend. Richardson reported a July 9 webinar on resume writing that drew 19 participants but whose recording cannot be posted, and she noted the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs will no longer facilitate the annual Centers for Independent Living consumer satisfaction survey, requiring SILC to identify an alternative approach.
