Residents press council for clearer notice and a full list of UDO zoning changes

Several residents used the council's public comment period on Aug. 3 to press for clearer, more accessible information about the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and proposed zoning map changes.
"If you haven't looked at it, they're all color coded and they're different color coded in each different there is none," Bradley Baker said, asking for a single list of what changed and for better neighborhood notification about rezoning proposals. Baker also raised concerns that some parcels proposed for heavy industry could be mapped adjacent to recently built single-family neighborhoods.
Mayor and council members reiterated that the UDO is a public-review draft and that planning commission hearings and formal public hearings will precede any council action. The mayor said draft materials and frequently asked questions are posted on the project website and that additional drop-in sessions were scheduled for Aug. 5 and Aug. 11.
Council members urged residents to attend the drop-in sessions and planning meetings; council said staff will compile comments and a change log as the draft is refined. The meeting did not include a vote on the UDO; council emphasized that formal public hearings will be held before any ordinance is adopted.
