Public Works reports progress on South Avenue testing, wins $1.1M culvert grant; details flood damage response

"They're filling, chlorinating, and starting to test," the Public Works presenter said, adding that testing is a two‑ to three‑day process and a single failing joint could require excavation.
In other major developments, the town won $1.1 million from Connecticut's local bridge program for the Lakeview culvert project, which staff said is slated to begin in April 2027 and will require a full seasonal closure. Officials also noted a related $350,000 community connectivity grant that will pay for a sidewalk from Lakeview to Maine Avenue at no cost to the town.
Public Works reviewed extensive cleanup after a heavy storm that caused flooding across multiple municipal buildings and parks. Staff described rapid emergency response, ongoing restoration work with a remediation contractor and planned trail repair bids; they said flood insurance is being processed and one aggregated claim approach helps address multiple buildings but the town's flood policy retains a $50,000 deductible.
Board members asked about schedules and next meeting updates; staff said they expect more detailed testing and paving schedule information by the next board meeting.
