Board signs off on parks equipment purchases aimed at reducing pesticide use

Parks staff asked the board to buy a Ventrac weed‑binder attachment ($9,607.84) to mechanically suppress broadleaf weeds on natural turf and newly seeded areas. "This purchase will be made through a Sourcewell purchasing contract at a total cost of $9,607.84," a parks presenter said, adding the attachment will be used on spaces where pesticide application is restricted.
Separately, the board approved a PermaGreen Triumph ride‑on sprayer/spreader ($13,546.50) to improve precision for seed and fertilizer application on small parcels and reduce outside contractor needs. The parks department also received authorization to purchase a Stinger Aerator 3000 with a seed box ($17,095.25) to combine aeration and overseeding into one pass for more efficient fall seeding.
Parks staff said the purchases are budgeted in the department's FY27 capital budget; they noted the equipment will supplement — not immediately replace — existing contractor services for large athletic fields.
