Commission approves 2025 Highway report and moves forward on bridge projects BR‑95 and BR‑176

The Daviess County Commissioners unanimously approved the highway department's 2025 annual report and several bridge actions on June 9. Chris Winkler, Daviess County Highway Department Supervisor, said missing mileage was added to the report and presented multiple contract actions for board approval.
Winkler presented a standard LPA consulting contract with The Lochmueller Group for preliminary engineering on Bridge #95 in Raglesville; that contract will return to the board after INDOT approves funding. He also presented final construction plans with contractor CLR for BR#176 (CR 700 E). The bridge, originally slated for decking replacement, failed inspection and will be fully replaced; the board approved the CLR construction plans unanimously (motion by TC Cook; seconded by Nathan Gabhart).
Winkler reported ongoing maintenance work placing rock and fabric on roads tiled last year (about 18 miles) and warned that a state gas tax suspension requires the department to monitor fuel spending until reimbursement details are clarified. He also reported receipt of a $30,000 payment from the railroad related to 2023 Montgomery bridge work; the check was passed to the Auditor and Treasurer for deposit.
