FEMA funding uncertain for classroom replacement; floodplain rules complicate siting

The board and staff also discussed siting constraints: the proposed alternate location near the baseball diamond lies on or adjacent to the 100‑year floodplain, and FEMA told staff they are unlikely to approve building in the floodway. Staff said they will pursue additional conversations with FEMA to clarify what they will fund and whether partial funding for site preparation could be used in combination with district funds to relocate or otherwise make the project feasible. The board asked staff to obtain clarification about FEMA time limits, restrictions on use and account handling and to report back.
"We could end up receiving limited funds to repair the portables," a presenter said while explaining the FEMA discussions. The board asked staff to bring options and documentation to the September meeting.
