Several speakers at the March 2 public hearing called on the New London Board of Education to advocate for increased state funding and support pending legislation, including HB5002.
Bianka Caremise, a student with Hearing Youth Voices, said the group has advocated at city and state levels and urged the Board and community to take action on HB5002. Nicole Broadus (written testimony) asked the Board to be present for Public Education Day of Action and to press for more magnet and ECS funding to maintain district supports, noting that state action could prevent layoffs and closures.
C.J. Parker encouraged community members to submit testimony and attend the upcoming Educational Committee hearing. The public record shows sustained calls for district leadership and Board members to participate in state advocacy as part of a broader strategy to address structural underfunding.
