County Treasurer Linda Hintzman presented a resolution to suspend 2026 property tax installments for Judy Langham’s parcel at 1648 Birch Avenue in the amount of $1,174; the board approved the request pursuant to the Code of Iowa. The board also approved suspension for Jason McGee’s parcel (2217 West 8th Street) totaling $4,538; members discussed how suspended taxes accrue and noted collection occurs upon sale or transfer.
The treasurer presented a tax-sale certificate (No. 3800700) assignment to Anthony and Juanita Garcia, which the board approved. Anthony Garcia came to the podium and introduced himself: “My name is Anthony Garcia. I live by 944 Newman Street.” He said he recently acquired the neighboring vacant property, plans to maintain it and possibly garden there for his grandmother. Board members discussed whether the county should accept the full principal of $5.94 or the Garcias’ offered $500; several supervisors supported accepting $500 given the buyer’s intent to maintain the lot and the board approved the compromise.
