PDC denies Chanel Tayac’s request to redact her address from 2024 campaign disclosure

The Washington Public Disclosure Commission announced on March 13 that it would deny a request by Chanel Tayac to redact her residential address from campaign disclosure records tied to a 2024 contribution to the Simone Barron campaign.
Tabitha, a staff presenter, told the Commission the partial modification request was filed 02/19/2025 and argued that the disclosure could present a personal risk to a reasonable person under the redaction provisions of state law. Tayac testified that she discovered her home address online without her authorization, described prior unwanted attention and safety concerns as a single woman living alone and as a federal employee, and said the disclosure (which also reports donation amount) made her a target. “It puts me at risk, as a single female, living alone in an apartment,” Tayac said, explaining she had declined to pursue law‑enforcement protections in certain prior episodes.
Commissioner Doug North asked whether Tayac had filed complaints or protection orders; Tayac said she had handled many matters informally. Chair Jay Leach said the Commission’s statutory test requires an individualized showing of manifestly unreasonable hardship and found Tayac’s account did not meet that legal threshold. Leach informed Tayac that a written denial would follow and noted remedies for review under the Administrative Procedures Act.
Tayac asked whether she could consent to listing her first name and donation amount only; Leach said the Commission must follow the statute and cannot change what the law requires. Staff will issue a written order with appeal information.
