Bucksport pool closed for the summer after repeated leaks; town plans fall scoping
Summary
After multiple repair attempts failed to stop recurring leaks, town staff reported the municipal pool will remain closed for the current summer; crews inserted new Schedule‑84 pipes and resealed drains but the pool lost water again, and the board plans further investigation with contractors in the fall.

Town facilities staff and board members recounted a series of inspections and repair attempts after the pool repeatedly failed to hold water. Chair Mitch said crews found failing 70‑year‑old drain and concrete elements; workers placed Schedule‑84 pipes inside original drains, sealed and concreted them, and repaved the surface, but the pool lost more water after subsequent fills and would not hold.
"We have not given up on the pool for future use, but just for this summer right now, the pool is shut down," the chair said. The board described past repairs and noted a similar nearby community (Brewer) with the same older asphalt pool issues. The town will pursue a more detailed contractor scoping and further excavation in the fall to locate the root cause and determine longer‑term repairs.
